The signature of the "Treaty of Rome" in the Capitol in the Italian capital on 25 March 1957 marks a historic day for the European Union. This jubilee was celebrated on 9 May 2107 at the European School Frankfurt with an event jointly organized by the ES Frankfurt and the Italian Consulate General.
The children of the primary school chorus opened the ceremony with the "European anthem". A very successful film produced by some S7 students from the ES Frankfurt on the European history from 1945 until today with a lot of original film documentaries impressed all students, the guest students of the Lycée Français Victor Hugo and everybody else present.
The guest speakers
Ms Ursula Fechter (City Councilor) - Frankfurt
Ms Ute Raab (Honorarkonsulin) - Belgium
Ms Sophie Laszlo (Consul General) - France
Mr Maurizio Canfora (Consul General) - Italy
Mr Fritz Becker (Consul) - Luxembourg
Mr Johannes Lindner - European Central Bank
Mr Pier Virgilio Dastoli - Movimento Europeo Italia
highlighted different aspects of European history, of today and the future. They talked, e.g. about the role of Frankfurt and the founding countries in the process of the foundation of the European Union, but also pointed out current challenges such as the Brexit and changing political constellations within Europe. The questions and contributions by some students revealed their great interest and motivation to actively support the European idea.
The management team of the ES Frankfurt would like to thank the Italian Consulate-General, the students, teachers, parents, staff and Ms Marina Carta (parent representative) for the successful cooperation.
